Regional Center of Family Planning and Human Reproduction
On January 1, 2002 in the Volyn Regional Children’s Territorial Medical Center (VRCTMC) there was created the Regional Center of Family Planning and Human Reproduction. The center works as a consultative department of VRCTMC. In the family planning center there is the obstetrician-gynecologist’s room (phone: 25-41-08). The room’s goal is giving specialized help to the Volyn population including treatment, diagnosis and prevention as well as introduction of new methods of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of obstetric and gynecologic patients, bringing up healthy life habits in population, analyzing obstetric and gynecologic morbidity, and holding activities regarding its reducing. The room’s activities include:
 Visiting an obstetrician-gynecologist In the prenatal ultrasound diagnosis room of the center of family planning and human reproduction we do the following diagnostic examinations:
 Ultrasound examination of a pregnant woman The regional family planning center also has the urologist-andrologist’s room (phone: 25-61-61), where we give specialized help to males with inflammatory diseases of urogenital system, male sterility, chronic prostatitis, erectile dysfunctions as well as to children with genital congenital anomalies and developmental problems. Male factor is responsible about 40-50% of infertile marriages. Causes of male sterility are numerous and manifold. In the structure of male sterility 70-80% drop to excretory-toxic one caused by sexually transmitted infections. Because VRCTMC has departments of clinical microbiology and medical genetics, immunology and genetic biochemistry, equipped by contemporary devices, we have a possibility to make a number of lab tests including:
 Andrologist M. Kudryk seeing a patient We advise couples (especially those who have lived in marriage for a year and want to but don’t have children) going to our center to find out the causes of your problems. We invite males having urogenital diseases for examination and treatment as well as children with genital pathology or puberty abnormalities. In the urologist-andrologist’s room together with contemporary diagnostic methods of male sex diseases we use new methods of treatment including physical therapy devices using ultrasound, magnet therapy, laser therapy, light therapy (“Bioptron” apparatus), ozone therapy, electric stimulation. Also we widely use the most effective phytomedications. The width of curative action and absence of side effects allow successful use of new technologies for managing infertility, chronic prostatitis, erectile dysfunction, orchiepididymitis, cystitis and urethritis. Medical genetic service of the oblast is represented by the Medical Genetic Consultation Room which is in the Regional Center of Family Planning and Human Reproduction and Laboratory of Medical Genetics, Immunology and Clinical Biochemistry which is in VRCTMC. Decree of the President of Ukraine # 118/99 from February 4, 1999 "About Task Complex Program of Genetic Monitoring in Ukraine During 1999-2003" has been realizing in Volyn Oblast since 1999 in the frames of Ukrainian-American Birth Defects Program (Director professor Wolodymyr Wertelecki, Chair of Medical Genetics Department of the University of South Alabama, USA) under support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). After the program completion birth defects monitoring is being realized under support of International Charitable Fund "OMNI-Net for Children" (Supervisory Board Head professor W. Wertelecki). Due to international cooperation an informational resource OMNI-Center was open in the oblast; we develop the oblast neonatal registry which gives a possibility to react on-the-fly to changes in oblast situation making necessary corrections in primary and secondary prevention of diseases. Psychological service of the Regional Center of Family Planning and Human Reproduction is directed to overcoming of crisis tendencies in population renewal and is called to form in youth the need to have a full family, desired and healthy children as well as to change the attitude of each person towards the family planning problems. The main aim of the psychological service is holding consultative, diagnostic, correctional and educational activities directed at delivery of psychological help to various family categories, individual family members, youth, and young couples regarding family planning questions, relations with a partner, children and relatives.  Preparing bodies for delivery Educational work is directed at holding prevention educational activities with pupils, students and working youth regarding issues of family life ethics and psychology, sexually transmitted diseases, alcohol, tobacco and drug usage prevention. The Regional Center of Family Planning and Human Reproduction is a partner of “Lyubystok” Practical Psychology Center in realization of a number of projects supported by international donor organizations.
